The Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Renewal Course is a one-day class designed to enhance student’s proficiency in the assessment and management of patients experiencing cardiovascular emergencies through video learning, group discussion, and hands-on practice. Hands-on practice is based on simulated clinical scenarios at various learning stations involving active participation. Students will practice essential skills individually and as part of a team, including assuming the role of Team Leader. Realistic simulations reinforce the following key concepts: skills acquisition, complex medical decision-making, and teamwork.
Objectives:
- Describe and demonstrate high-quality BLS CPR
- Describe and demonstrate patient assessment using a systematic approach
- Recognition and management of cardiopulmonary arrest, post-cardiac arrest care, acute arrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes (ACS)
- Describe and demonstrate how to properly manage patients using AHA ACLS algorithms
- Describe methods of oxygen delivery and demonstrate proper airway management
- Describe and demonstrate proper use of cardiac monitor, including ECG monitoring, rhythm identification, and defibrillation/cardioversion/transcutaneous pacing
- Describe proper establishment of intraosseous (IO) access
- Describe and demonstrate proper administration of ACLS meds, including proper dose and route
- Describe and demonstrate proper team communication and dynamics related to resuscitation
The ACLS Renewal Course is designed for healthcare providers who directly participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies. ACLS must be required for your job role and have the approval of your department manager.
Pre-test REQUIRED for this course.
PLEASE NOTE: BLS CPR Provider Certification is not provided as part of the ACLS course.
A student who enters the ACLS Renewal Course MUST be proficient with rhythm identification, ACLS pharmacology, principles of high-quality BLS, and ACLS treatment algorithms. Any student lacking proficiency will not be able to function successfully in the learning and testing stations and is unlikely to successfully complete the ACLS Renewal Course, as these subjects are not covered in detail during the one-day course.
Attendance credit: 8.0 hours
EMS CE credit available per OEMS guidelines.

CLASSES START PROMPTLY ON TIME. Students are expected to attend and participate in the entire course. Due to course content, late admittance is not permitted. If you arrive late, you will be rescheduled. NO EXCEPTIONS.
