BLS Heartcode- ONLINE Provider/Renewal Course

Centra offers an online BLS CPR Provider course as a convenience for providers who are not able or do not wish to attend an in-person course. 

Objectives of the AHA BLS CPR Provider course:

• Understand the AHA Chain of Survival
• Recognize when a victim needs CPR and how high-quality CPR can improve outcome
• Describe and demonstrate high-quality CPR on adults/children/infants
• Describe the importance of early AED use and demonstrate the proper operation.
• Describe and demonstrate proper ventilation using a bag-mask device, as well as understanding of other methods of ventilation, such as using a barrier device or m-t-m.
• Describe and demonstrate how to relieve foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO) for adults/children and infants.
• Describe the importance of high-performance teams and proper team dynamics
• Perform as an effective team member during multi-rescuer CPR.

NOTE: Non-licensed caregivers or employees not providing direct patient care should take HEARTSAVER CPR/AED/FIRST AID. Some examples include security personnel, concierge, ambassadors, patient sitters, unlicensed mental health associates, occupational therapy assistants, dieticians, and any admin or non-clinical employees. If you are unsure which course to take or which is required for your role, refer to departmental policy, reach out to your manager/direct supervisor, or contact the Centra AHA Training Center at ahatrainingcenter@centrahealth.com. 

Online AHA course information and expectations:

• You will request enrollment in the online BLS CPR course by registering below. Once AHA staff receives your completed registration, your online course will be assigned within 3 business days.

• You will receive your course link from RQI via e-mail and you will complete your online learning portion on your own.

• Once you have completed the online learning portion, you will come to the Centra AHA Training Center, located within the Central Virginia Center for Simulation and Virtual Learning, for your hands-on skills check-off.

• Skills completion Monday - Thursday, No appointment is needed for RQI hands-on. RQI CLOSES AT 3:30.

• You will log in to your RQI account on the simulator when you get here, so you must know your username and password.

• Other RQI skills check-off stations are available at the following locations BY APPOINTMENT ONLY:

  • Bedford Memorial Hospital (Contact: ahatrainingcenter@centrahealth.com)

  • Gretna Medical Center (Contact: ahatrainingcenter@centrahealth.com)

  • Southside Hospital in Farmville  (Contact: ahatrainingcenter@centrahealth.com)

• The expectation is to have your course completed within 60 days of assignment.

Centra employees only:

• Failure to complete your course within 60 days will result in the employee incurring the full cost, fair market price, of the online course, less the $25 convenience fee that has already been paid.
• If you are separated from Centra prior to completing your online assignment, you will be able to complete the course and receive your certification, however you will also be responsible for the full cost of the online course, fair market price.
